Improving the Quality of Your Indoor Air
Maintaining good indoor air quality is an important part of keeping you and your family safe and healthy. February is Indoor Air Quality Month, and so the heating & air professionals at R & R Heating & Air have some easy tips to help you improve the air quality in your home.
Air Care Tips
There are some simple steps you can take to help improve the air quality in your home:
- Improve Ventilation
Most home heating and cooling systems don’t bring fresh air from the outside into your home. Whenever possible, open your windows and doors and turn on window and/or attic fans to help increase ventilation.
Increasing ventilation will help exchange fresher outdoor air for the air in your home that could have a number of different pollutants in it, such as dust mites.
- Invest in an Air Cleaner
An air cleaner can be an effective tool to help filter impurities from the air in your home. Air cleaners come in all shapes, sizes and prices and can be found at home improvement stores.
The effectiveness of an air cleaner is dependent upon how much air it draws through the filter and how well it collects pollutants (the efficiency rate).
- Adjust the Humidity in Your Home
The amount of humidity in your home can affect the indoor air quality. High humidity, for example, can encourage mold growth. The ideal humidity for a home is between 30 and 50 percent.
You can find a moisture humidity gage at any hardware store to monitor the humidity level in your home. Depending on the results, a humidifier will increase humidity while a dehumidifier will decrease humidity.
- Change Filters Regularly
Heaters, air conditioners and swamp coolers have filters that trap the pollutants in the air. Changing the filters regularly can help ensure that they are catching the greatest amount of pollution possible.
Our fast, knowledgeable technicians at R & R Heating & Air will change your filters when they inspect your heating and/or cooling system.
